A Grey Day

Our two gorgeous greys shared more than just the colour of their coats yesterday when both finished 2nd in their respective races.

True Romance headed to Musselburgh for the 2m, 0-120 handicap hurdle. He took a keen hold in the early stages under Henry but was jumping fluently despite his enthusiasm. He went on to lead from three out and maintained that position, travelling strongly, when clearing the last with a four length advantage and the race seemingly at his mercy.

However having been out on his own for a long time, and perhaps showing some naivety on only his 3rd start over hurdles, Truey began to idle on the run-in and the winner, arriving with a wet sail, had momentum on his side at the only point that mattered to win by shortest of margins in a photo.

In the moment, the manner of the defeat was disappointing but True Romance remains an exciting prospect for owner Kiel Ward and we look forward to going again with him.

Sunhill Lad was then having his first run since joining the yard in September over 1m4f at Wolverhampton. His owners Alan & Jean Court made the journey to support their four year old and, despite him not having won before, such was his home work that we were looking forward to getting him on the track.

He held a nice position in 4th (of the field of 12) for much of the race and readily moved up to sit on the leader’s shoulder to make a challenge approaching the 3f marker. Andrew Mullen sent Sunhill Lad on to lead 2f out but he was headed with a furlong to go and kept on to hold 2nd place by 2 lengths, with a further 2 lengths back to the horse in 3rd.

Again the initial feeling in the immediate aftermath was one of disappointment not to have won, but he’s a lovely horse who has improved no end since his arrival just two months ago, and we look forward to going again with him too.
