F’ayr’ground Fun For Piazon

Air was about all Piazon’s rivals saw when he annihilated the field of 11 in the 5f handicap sprint at Ayr yesterday on his preferred soft ground.

Despite the burden of top weight, the eight year old jumped smartly out of the stalls and was sent straight on to lead by Nathan Evans.

Having made all, the pair were well clear over 1f out and kept on strongly to win unchallenged by just under two lengths.

It was an impressive win for Piazon who remarkably, given his recent consistency (two wins and eight places from his last 12 runs!), hadn’t won on turf since 2014.

His connections, The Body Warmers, were all there to cheer him on, and back in, and safe to say Piazon certainly knew he’d won!

It Mussel Be Love

True Romance had another day in the sun (both figuratively & literally speaking) when he delivered his, and the yard’s, first flat win on turf yesterday at a very hot summer’s day at Musselburgh!

Having changed codes and experienced success over hurdles in his two most recent runs, and his last flat run coming back in October 2018 on the all-weather, it was another change of scene for the 5 year old.

Graham Lee had True Romance held up in the middle of the field of 13 runners for much of the 1m6f trip before making smooth headway over 1f out. The lovely grey then comfortably went on to lead inside the final furlong and stayed on well to win.

True Romance’s owner Kiel Ward was there to witness the success and we were especially delighted for him as he has been enormously patient in allowing us to find the key to this horse, particularly throughout 2018 when Truey’s flat form was more often than not disappointing. Kiel’s company, KSW Engineering (Yorkshire) Ltd, is also our stable sponsor and his continued support of the yard is very much appreciated.

In the preceding race, the ultra consistent Piazon (with his favourite jockey Nathan Evans in the plate – a True Bromance?) yet again made the frame to finish 3rd of the 11 runners in the 5f sprint handicap.

It was a particularly good effort given that they probably travelled further than the rest of the field as Nathan was alert to their wide draw and had to bring Piazon right across to hold a prominent position – and there was only just over a length in it at the finish….

Once again Piazon’s connections, Shaun Sowray and Nick & Jackie Dalby aka The Body Warmers, were present to support their horse and enjoy yet another visit to the winners enclosure – he just likes to vary the number on the post that they have to head to but he (& they) surely deserve another “Number 1” position before the season’s out.
