Kev’s a Great Yorkshire Winner

Our Travelling Head Lad, Kev Traylor, is clearly a man of versatile talent.

Not just adept at working with racehorses – he’s also pretty useful with the smaller models too!

At this year’s Great Yorkshire Show he was showing one of his Welsh Section A ponies in the two & three year old colt class.

Despite stiff opposition from Horse of the Year Show qualified ponies, Kev and Friars Henry Croft (who he’s produced since acquiring him as a foal) took the top spot at this prestigious event.

The whole Brough Farm team were there to cheer him on from the grandstand and there was absolutely no good natured heckling – honestly…..

Go Glengarry!

Glengarry made a welcome return to the winner’s enclosure when taking Division 1 of the 0-65 handicap over 7f  at Catterick yesterday, just three runs after his last visit to the same spot at Redcar at the beginning of June.

This time he was partnered by Jack Garritty and the jockey followed instructions to the letter. He bounced Glengarry out of the stalls and rode him to hold a prominent position before engaging cruise control and dropping him in behind the leaders.

As the field swung the final bend into the home straight Glengarry was travelling noticeably well as one by one his rivals began to get to work.

Sent on once they’d passed the 2f pole, Glengarry picked up strongly to lead inside the final furlong.

Despite a late challenge from one of the favourites , the eight year old kept on well to win by a comfortable neck under a perfectly executed ride from start to finish by Jack.

With two wins from five, in just over seven weeks, Glengarry is becoming something of a flagbearer for the yard at a time when we’ve not been sending out many runners. He’s a lovely horse for his connections to be involved in and it was good that two of them, Peter & Julie Sowray, were able to be at the course in the sunshine to cheer him home.

Special mention should also be given to Catterick’s new owners’ facilities which, we were reliably informed by those present, were excellent! Given the patience owners have shown throughout lockdown, it’s great that they are now able to enjoy a proper day out supporting their horse.

Long may it all last!

It must be hot – Kev’s wearing shorts!!
