The Body Warmers syndicate were in the winners enclosure today at Southwell with their lovely sprinter Piazon when he overhauled the favourite of the 5f Betway Handicap in the final furlong.
In a field of 14 runners, Piazon was slightly hampered just after the start but then tracked the leaders, making headway two furlongs out.
Under a great ride from Nathan Evans, the pair mounted their challenge with a furlong to run and Piazon stayed on strongly as he was driven out to win by 1/2 length at the line.
Representing The Body Warmers, Jackie & Nick Dolby were there to experience “live” the thrill of winning and Southwell Racecourse looked after them admirably post-race. As first time owners we were all particularly delighted that Piazon provided them with such a memorable day. And fellow “Body Warmer” Shaun Sowray could be heard celebrating all the way from Ripon!
Credit also goes to assistant trainer Danny (Brooke) who, partly due to the fact Piazon adores him, is tasked with leading the horse down to the start. No mean feat on turf but jogging on the all weather fibresand of Southwell is a definite test of stamina. Perhaps a blessing that Piazon is a sprinter and not a miler….?!
