Two in a row for One In A Row

The yard bragging rights definitely went to One In A Row yesterday at Hexham when he followed up his clear round at Sedgefield last month after some two & a half years off the track, with a fantastic 4th place in the 2m7f handicap hurdle. Given a lovely ride by regular (albeit back in the day!) jockey John Kington, he jumped well and only tired towards the last furlong – the front four having pulled some way clear of the rest of the field.

Reassuringly he was as grumpy as ever back in the racecourse stables post race as he was pre race, which only led us believe he’d quite enjoyed himself but just didn’t want to admit it!

Danny has been instrumental in getting One In A Row fit and continued to give the 10 year old plenty of work after his comeback run – for which both of them have stripped much fitter (….so to speak)

He has recently also been ridden out by our work placement student Lilly Flude, who proudly led him up on her first time at the races yesterday & is now unlikely to relinquish the ride to anyone else.

We try not to do outward displays of sentimentality here but everyone was a little emotional following One In A Row’s place yesterday as one of his owners has recently been battling serious illness (happily with much success!). Safe to say yesterday was a triumph over adversity for the pair of them and as he remarked this morning “days like yesterday should be available on prescription”. That says it all really……
