A Hazy recollection of Sedgefield

Hazy Manor could be forgiven for feeling a bit dazed & confused after her run in the 0-100, 2m1f handicap hurdle at Sedgefield yesterday.

Under the burden of virtually top weight, and one of the youngest in the field of ten runners, Hazy once again put in her customary 100% effort.

Settled well towards the rear under Henry (Brooke) she was going plenty quick enough in the early stages, on ground that had turned on the sharp side for her in the drying wind, but hurdling smartly nonetheless.

Hazy then began to make good headway through the field when Henry asked her to get involved as they rounded the top bend to begin the descent towards the second last, which they jumped in a line of four for 3rd place.

Although the eventual winner appeared to have flown, Hazy was running on strongly when she received an almighty broadside bump from a faller alongside her as they landed after the last. Not of the biggest stature, this brave little filly did well to keep her feet and maintain the partnership. And despite being temporarily without stirrups, Henry drove her out to hold on for 3rd place by a length from the favourite.

Her owners, the Brough Farm Racing Partnership are hugely supportive of this mare and were delighted that she had yet again made the frame over hurdles. If wins were decided by putting your heart on the line then her day will surely come……
