Having survived Romans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings, the Norman Conquest, Royalist turmoil, highwayman hangings, and by the late 1800s a chocolate boom…. the beautiful City of York braced itself for an invasion of an entirely different kind by the brilliant Ladsdoracing syndicate on Sunday night after Forewarning finished an incredible 2nd in a pulsating finish to the 2m 1/2f, 0-80 handicap at the racecourse earlier that afternoon.

In a strong looking race the lads were out to enjoy their day more in hope than expectation but by 4.05pm, because of the way the closing stages of the race had unfolded, the celebrations in defeat had begun in earnest!

Ridden once again by Cam Hardie, the 5 year old was settled in his customary place towards the rear of the field before making headway on the outer 3f out after the field of twelve had swung into the long home straight.

From looking to have a seemingly impossible task, Forewarning once again showed an impressive turn of speed & resolution to quickly reel in the leaders with just over a furlong to run.

He maintained his challenge with a strong run inside the final furlong and was head to head with the favourite who was all out when, with only 100 yards to run, the 2/1f found slightly more and edged ahead to win by just three quarters of a length. With that horse having won its last three races comfortably, and talks of being aimed at the Cesarewitch, it gives some context to Forewarning’s achievement.

The 2nd favourite was a further length back in 3rd having chased Forewarning & the winner in the last furlong, but the rest of the field were strung out some 7+ lengths behind.

In acknowledging the part their horse had played in the race, the team at York treated Ladsdoracing to champagne all round before the happy syndicate headed off to tackle the legendary “Micklegate Run” and invade as many of the alleged 365 watering holes within the City’s walls as they could manage!

Champagne!   York invasion!
